Division of Continuing Education

The Division of Continuing Education meets the educational needs of more than 15,000 people per year with a variety of programs including evening credit courses during the fall and spring semesters; University summer and winter session courses; access to specialized on- and-off-campus undergraduate and graduate degree programs; professional development programs and workshops; certificate programs; independent study courses and internships; highly specialized courses; noncredit workshops (in the areas of English as a Second Language, personal enrichment, and career development); and online courses. Academic advisers are available to help students with degree programs or courses related to their life and career objectives. Many categorical waivers, including senior citizen waivers, are not applicable to Continuing Education courses. Students should contact the Continuing Education Business Office to learn whether or not their waiver is valid for Continuing Education courses.

In collaboration with the University's schools and colleges, the following part-time master's degree programs are offered through the Division of Continuing Education: M.M./Music Education; P.M.B.A. professional programs offered in Pittsfield, Springfield, Westborough and online; Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering; Master of Science in Engineering Management; Master of Public Health Program in Worcester; M.S. in Labor Studies; M.S. in Computer Science; M.Ed., M.Ed. for Science Teachers, off-campus programs in Springfield; M.S. in Soil Science; and Post-Master's Nurse Practitioner Certificate Program. In addition, programs include a Postbaccalaureate Pre-Clinical Program in Communication Disorders (offered for those who have a bachelor's degree in a field other than Communication Disorders but who would like to pursue a graduate degree in either Speech Pathology or in Audiology), postbaccalaureate teacher licensure programs and professional development courses for teachers/educators. Postbaccalaureate teacher licensure programs and professional development courses for teachers/educators are also offered.

Online Graduate Degree Programs

Four graduate degree programs are offered online through the Division of Continuing Education. Courses in the online degree programs are taught by resident University faculty and meet the same academic requirements as traditional on-campus courses. The courses are located at the University's virtual campus: www.umassonline.net.

The Professional Master of Business Administration degree program is fully accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The accelerated P.M.B.A. program is designed for professionals who want to continue their education in the management field.

The Master of Public Health Practice degree provides graduate education for practicing professionals with relevant experience in public health. The Master of Science in Nursing/Master of Public Health Dual Degree Program Online builds on previous nursing education and clinical experience, and prepares graduates for leadership positions in public health.
