The School of Public Health and Health Sciences offers programs leading to the Master of Public Health, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy degree with concentrations in: biostatistics; community health education; environmental health sciences; epidemiology; health policy and management; and nutrition (see information under the Department of Nutrition). The programs are organized into several academic areas: Biostatistics and Epidemiology, Community Health Education, Management and Policy, and Environmental Health Sciences. The mission of the School is to generate and transmit knowledge that promotes health and prevents disease and disability through research, education, and community outreach. Graduate programs prepare individuals for professional health and health sciences careers in accordance with societal needs. The School fosters and maintains an involvement in community and agency activities, especially in Mas-sachusetts and the New England region. The research goal of the School is to conduct basic and applied research and disseminate the results in all areas of scientific and professional activities related to the promotion of health and prevention of disease.
