The M.S. and Ph.D. programs in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering are designed to meet the needs of students planning either more advanced study or professional employment. The programs at the University of Massachusetts concentrate on the application of the latest experimental, mathematical and computer techniques to problems of industry and governments while providing students with the theoretical background required to keep up with rapidly changing technology. Students can focus on topics in materials, mechanical design, thermofluids, automatic controls, operations research, manufacturing and production, quality engineering, and ergonomics/human factors engineering, or an area of mutual interest to student and faculty.
