James V. Staros
James V. Staros is provost and senior vice chancellor for academic affairs at UMass Amherst. Prior to assuming his post in 2009 he was dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at Stony Brook University in New York, where he also held an appointment as a professor in the department of biochemistry and cell biology. He previously taught, and was a department chair, at Vanderbilt University. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1969 with a customized major in biology and chemistry, and earned his Ph.D. from Yale University in 1974.
