Definitions

Grant: money allocated to student to offset research expenses

Fellowship: money allocated to fellow to enhance academic career and support individual's research project. Costs of living, tuition, and other benefits are typically included.

Deadlines

Grant: often has one or more application deadlines throughout the year

Fellowship: almost always has a fall or early winter deadline (October – January)
