◊ Lecture, April 10, 2008:
“Yiddish Theatre: A New Look at its 19th-century Context”

Prof. Klaus Hödl (Uni-Graz) will lecture on 19th-century Yiddish theater and its public. The event will begin at 5:30 pm at the National Yiddish Book Center (Hampshire College campus). For more information, contact Prof. Skolnik.

Conference, April 11, 2008:
Wrocław/Breslau: Poles, Germans, Jews and their City

We are proud to sponsor a major conference on the history and culture of this “multi-ethnic” city – from the 1800s though the Holocaust and the postwar – and its legacy in a new Europe. The conference will take place from 9:30 to 5 pm at the National Yiddish Book Center (Hampshire College campus). For more information, contact Prof. Skolnik.

◊ Professor Lennox to receive Chancellor’s Medal

Congratulations to Prof. Sara Lennox!  She has been invited to present a Distinguished Faculty Lecture, where she will be presented with the University of Massachusetts Chancellor’s Medal.  Her lecture, “Claiming Blackness in Germany,” will be given on Monday, April 28, 2008 at 4 pm in the Massachusetts Room of the Mullins Center.  A reception will follow.

◊ MYTH Conference Hosted by Graduate Students

Our third biennial graduate student conference was entitled MYTH: A Graduate Conference in German & Scandinavian Studies and was held on February 15-17, 2008 in Herter 601.  The conference featured seventeen panelists from around the world discussing myths and myth-making, ancient and modern.
