In addition to being a Ph.D. candidate in German and Scandinavian Studies, Evan has worked as the Program Assistant for the DEFA Film Library from 2006 - 2009. He will be studying at the Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen "Konrad Wolf" in Potsdam on a Fulbright Fellowship for the 2009-2010 academic year. His recent accomplishments include the co-publication (with Victoria Lenshyn) of the edited volume MYTH: German and Scandinavian Studies with Cambridge Scholars Press, an overview essay for the Blackwell Companion to Michael Haneke entitled "Civilization's Endless Shadow: Time of the Wolf," and the subtitling of many films including Kuhle Wampe, or Who Owns the World?, Divided Heaven, The Adventures of Werner Holt, Michael Haneke's television productions, and the short films of Andreas Dresen.
He is currently working on questions of race representation and the Cold War in a dissertation tentatively titled "Painting the World in Our Colors: Race in the Genre Cinema of Divided Germany." He is also an electronic musician.
