IE Departmental “Seed” Grants
With support from the Davis Educational Foundation, the Provost’s Office and the General Education Council (GEC) awarded departmental seed grants to support Integrative Experience (IE) development and implementation (see more information about the IE Requirement see below). Department Heads and Chairs, or their designee, received grants of up to $2,500. Awarded funds must be used by the end of the grant period, May 2013.
The funding will be used to support departmental design and implementation efforts in a variety of ways. For example: student focus groups to find out the student perspective on integrative learning, luncheon meetings or departmental retreats to focus on IE, instructional resources or assessment tools to facilitate integrative learning, etc.
About the IE Requirement:
- The Integrative Experience (IE) is an upper-division General Education requirement that provides a structured context for students to reflect on their own learning and explore the connections between the broad exposure provided by General Education and the more focused exposure of their major.
- The requirement went into effect for the Class that entered in Fall 2010, meaning students could begin fulfilling the requirement in Fall 2012.
- The IE is imbedded in the student’s major.
- Departments should submit their IE plans and IE options by January 11th, 2012.
