FACULTY

The Office of Research Affairs (ORA) is a central campus location for resources in support of research and scholarly activities. Those seeking information and support for foundation activities, may also contact the Office of Foundation Relations.

Faculty members may also link to resources on how to submit a proposal on campus, and to notes on proposal preparation or contact the Office of Grant and Contract Administration (OGCA) directly with proposal submission questions.

Faculty members should also consult these informative web resources for funding information:

Community of Science (COS) Don't be mislead by the name "Community of Science." This powerful database provides information on over 15,000 programs for virtually every discipline.

Illinois Researcher Information Service (IRIS) The IRIS Alert Service is available to UMASS faculty members through our subscription to IRIS. It allows users to create individual IRIS search profiles that are run against the IRIS database of funding opportunities at intervals specified by the user (weekly, monthly or every other month). The search results are delivered to the user by e-mail or posted to a World Wide Web site.

Library Resources - A comprehensive listing of reference materials relating to funding opportunities, grant applications and grant writing is located in the Du Bois Library Reference Section. In addition to the electronic resources, the Office of Research Affairs also maintains funding directories to help you search out and apply for funding. All campus members are invited to drop in and use these resources that are available in Room 517 Goodell Building.

Faculty Research Expertise - The Office of Research Affairs supports a database of university researchers and their areas of expertise. This database is a subset of the Community of Science (COS) Expertise system that catalogues the research and scholarly interests of campus faculty members from all disciplines. This is a primary reference tool used by the Office in distributing specialty grant announcementsand for those seeking collaborators for projects. Faculty members who register an expertise profile will automatically receive an e-mail funding alert. (For more information contact the ORA at 5-3428)

Funding Alert Services - Many funding programs have initiated free subscription e-mail funding alert services. Register for one or more of the many alert services listed on the ORA web page.

Check out access to other funding information including Federal Programs, the Federal Register, Commerce Business Daily, NIH Guide, NSF Bulletin, and to Massachusetts State information. Also, don't forget to check out our On-Campus Funding Resources page, for other funding opportunities for faculty.
