The University's Division of Continuing Education offers a certificate program in fundraising that might be of interest to the novice and experienced grant writer. Below is a general description of the program, but we recommend that you visit Continuing Education Division's web site, where you will see a comprehensive listing of classes related to the subject of grant writing.
The Certificate Program in Fund Raising
Fund raising efforts generate over $120 billion per year in the United States. With nearly a million nonprofit organizations all faced with cutbacks in federal and state aid, changing corporate contributions, and tough new tax laws, more skilled professionals are needed. Comprehensive, practical, and in-depth knowledge is essential. Strategic planning, communications, organizational skills, individual donor work, and foundation and corporate relations are indispensable to survival for today's nonprofits.
The Certificate Program in Fund Raising is awarded to individuals who successfully complete six courses in Fund Raising over two semesters. The six courses build on each other to increase your knowledge of the development profession. Three courses are offered each fall and spring. By the end of the program, you will have compiled a professional portfolio.
Although in some instances the courses may be taken individually, participants are encouraged to take the courses in sequence. Earning the certificate is an indication to potential and current employers of commitment to the profession. For a detailed brochure on the program, please call Lifelong Learning (413) 545-0474.
