Eppan orchard -- looking north, towards the Alps. Eppan is a town near Bolzano, where apple growing is their life and blood. This is a typical orchard -- tree spacing is 1 X 3 meter, and the support posts are made of cement. Wooden posts were used, but they rotted too soon. All the orchards have overhead sprinkler irrigation for frost control. y
