Majors and minors in French Studies are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the Department to spend a year studying in France. The Department, in cooperation with the French program at UMass - Boston now offers a program in Paris. After an initial two-week orientation students will continue their studies for the academic year at either the Institut de langue et culture françaises of the Institut Catholique de Paris, the Université de Paris-VII, the Institut de Sciences Politiques, the Université de-Paris Dauphine, depending on their level of proficiency in French.
Although the program is designed as a full academic-year experience, a limited number of places are available for participation on a one-semester basis. Students can earn up to 36 credits and select from among courses in French Studies, Comparative Literature, Art, History, Political Science, Economics, Film Studies, Canadian Studies, English, and many other fields. Designed to meet the needs of American university students with diverse majors and minors, these programs offer an outstanding curriculum taught by French university professors at little more than the cost of a year of undergraduate study on the Amherst campus. It provides French majors and minors a splendid opportunity for an academic year in France at a reasonable price.
