"Summer time and the livin' is easy"--?  Not when it comes to construction at UMass!  A whole lot is happening this week... Amherst road crews are back to work on North Pleasant Street between Fearing and Massachusetts Avenue (with an accompanying detour for east/southbound traffic); portions of Commonwealth Avenue and Eastman Lane are getting a leveling course paving on Tuesday; the road closure on Clark Hill Road has been extended through Wednesday to accommodate sprinkler installations; and the west end of Chancellors Way is now PERMANENTLY CLOSED as the first phase of the Thatcher Way/Infirmary Way connection project begins... Lot 66 (Marks Meadow), Eastman Lane and Commonwealth Avenue Paving Scheduled

Parking Lot 66 at Marks Meadow School will be CLOSED from Monday, July 7 through Friday, July 11 for reconstruction and paving.  Parking Services is directing Lot 66 permit holders to Lot 44 (located northeast of the school) and Lot 27 (located southeast of the school, near Totman).  See map.

Work crews will be in the road on Eastman Lane and Commonwealth Avenue throughout the July 7 - 11 week, with final paving currently planned for Thursday, July 10 ("leveling courses" have already been applied).  Eastman Lane will be paved from the Sylvan Residential Area to East Pleasant Street; Commonwealth Avenue will be paved from Holdsworth Way to Campus Center Way.  One lane will remain open at all times during the work, and police will be directing traffic.  Please drive carefully and expect delays.

Please note that this work is dependent on several variables -the weather, the availability of materials, equipment and personnel -and, so, the schedule and specific location of the work may change with little or no notice throughout the week.

Amherst Renews Work On North Pleasant Street

THE TOWN OF AMHERST has returned to continue work on North Pleasant Street from Triangle Street to Massachusetts Avenue.

North Pleasant Street is once again CLOSED to southbound traffic from Massachusetts Avenue to Fearing Street.  Southbound North Pleasant Street traffic is being detoured onto Massachusetts Avenue, Lincoln Avenue and Fearing Street.  Northbound traffic will be allowed through.  (See map)

Work is taking place between 6AM and 4PM, weekdays.  The roadway will reopen to two-way traffic on evenings and weekends.  Please watch for and follow all detour signs.

Please note that we do not, at this writing, have any specific timetable from the Town of Amherst as to when they expect to complete work in the area.  We have requested this information, and it will be posted when available.
