Current road closure/traffic detour information

Hicks Way Closure Extended Through July 3

A portion of Hicks Way in the vicinity of the SCAF project that has been closed since June 8 for utility work will continue to be closed beyond the original schedule (June 19) through mid-August due to unforeseen construction challenges. Northern sections of Hicks Way will continue to be accessible via Grinnell Road from Commonwealth Avenue.  Questions should be directed to the UMass Design & Construction Management capital project manager, Henry Merriman, at 7-1722 or hmerriman@facil.umass.edu.

The Design Building construction area on North Pleasant Street has transitioned to active status requiring the closure of a south/easterly section of Stockbridge Road to through traffic.

See map, right.  Non-construction vehicle access to Stockbridge Road from Thatcher Road is now restricted to deliveries being made to Fernald Hall or the Studio Arts Building.  Vehicle access to Parking Lots 62 (adjacent to the north side of the construction site) and 63 (on the west side of Fernald Hall) should now be made via the Franklin Dining Commons lot.  Also note designated pedestrian pathways in the area and the closure of a portion of sidewalk on the east side of North Pleasant Street.

Questions about the Design Building project should be directed to the UMass Design & Construction Management capital project manager, Burt Ewart, at 7-0128 or bewart@facil.umass.edu; parking questions should be directed to Parking Services, (413) 577-PARK.

More information about the Design Building project can be found on the project information page.

Thatcher Road Detour At Life Science Laboratories Tuesday, July 28

Contractors for the Life Science Laboratories (LSL) Mass Life Sciences Fit-out will close a portion of Thatcher Road and re-route vehicle traffic on Tuesday, July 28, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting, to accommodate the use of a crane in the area.

Vehicle traffic, both north- and south-bound, will be routed through Parking Lot 63.  The parking lot will remain open to Lot 63 permit holders, so parkers and through-drivers should exercise caution.  Tractor trailer trucks will be restricted from access to Thatcher Road (through traffic) for the duration of the closure, and the sidewalk in the area will also be closed to pedestrian traffic.

Questions about this project should be directed to the UMass Design & Construction Management project executive, Peter Gray-Mullen, at 7-0909, or gpeter@facil.umass.edu.
