Regional Alumni Officer - Greater Boston

The University of Massachusetts Amherst Foundation seeks a dynamic self-starter to cultivate and engage alumni advocates and volunteer networks in the Greater Boston region who will support and advance university initiatives. 

Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Alumni Relations, the Regional Alumni Officer is responsible for planning and executing alumni outreach and engagement strategies in the Greater Boston area and surrounding regions with the goal to increase constituent awareness and philanthropic investment; boost participation at football games and other regional programs; expand alumni advocacy and involvement in supporting key campus priorities; and foster lasting connections between alumni, students, the University and its Alumni Association.  As such, the Regional Officer will work primarily out of the Boston office of UMass Amherst and travel regularly throughout the region. The Regional Officer will collaborate with Development, Athletics, University Relations, Admissions and other campus partners to identify strategic objectives and manage associated outreach and programming initiatives.  In addition, the Regional Officer will cultivate, steward and mobilize various volunteer networks and corporate contacts in support of the regional alumni relations strategy, and will directly support the development and growth of the alumni advocacy network housed within University Relations.   

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in communications, public relations or related field and five years of relevant experience, to include three years of event planning or program development and volunteer management; development or alumni relations experience preferred.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required; experience with public speaking, coaching and persuasive communication techniques preferred.  Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of constituents to achieve institutional goals required.  Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage several projects simultaneously, and ability to work independently and effectively without daily supervision required.  Demonstrated skill and confidence in using Microsoft Office Suite and database applications required.  Valid driver’s license with ability and willingness to travel regularly and work evening and weekend hours as required; familiarity with Greater Boston area preferred.  Political campaign or other grassroots or volunteer organization experience preferred.  Experience working within a higher education or non-profit environment preferred.

Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
