Departmental Scholarships

Alumni Scholarship

Any freshmen or transfer University of Massachusetts students who are Food Science majors with a strong interest in Food Science are eligible for this scholarship.

Buttrick Scholarship

Only Junior/Senior University of Massachusetts Food Science majors are eligible and recipients are selected based on scholarship and financial need.

Perrozzi Scholarship

Open to all University of Massachusetts Food Science majors who have completed two semesters at UMass with a 3.0 GPA or above. Recipients are selected based upon need, campus contributions, past experience and a future career in the food industry.

College of Natural Sciences Scholarships

CNS Scholarships are available for Food Science majors. Information can be obtained at: CNS Scholarships. (Deadline: May 3)

Professional Organization Scholarships for Food Science Majors

The Institute of Food Technologists offers undergraduate scholarships to incoming Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors/Seniors. For the 2001-02 school year, 110 undergraduate scholarships were awarded ranging in value from $1,000 to $2,250. Deadline for Junior/Senior applications to department heads is February 1; for Freshmen, February 15; and for Sophomores, March 1.

The Northeast Section of IFT offers scholarships to undergraduate students who are student members of the Northeast section. Deadline varies. Contact the Department of Food Science for more information.

National Meat Association Scholarship Foundation offers financial support to encourage undergraduate students to pursue a curriculum leading to a degree in Animal Sciences, Meat Sciences or Food Sciences. Deadline:Beginning of May.

National Dairy Promotion and Research Board (NDPRB), through Dairy Management Inc. (DMI), annually awards up to 19 $1,500 scholarships to sophomore, junior and/or senior undergraduate students enrolled in college/university programs that emphasize dairy. Eligible majors include Food Science majors. Scholarships are awarded based upon outstanding academic achievement, a commitment to a career in a dairy-related discipline, and demonstrated leadership, initiative and integrity. Deadline: End of May.
