History of Giving to UMass Food Science

The Department of Food Science is blessed with having wonderful alumni and friends.

As a result we have been extremely successful in establishing endowments and receiving support from alumni and friends of the Department since we began to solicit such support in 1990. Since that time we have been most fortunate in receiving outstanding support for day-to-day operations of the Department as well as creating the following endowments:

  • The Carl Fellers Memorial Fund $1,300,000
  • F. J. Francis Endowed Chair $2,000,000
  • F. M. Clydesdale Professorship $1,700,000
  • Graduate Student Scholarship Endowment $1,300,000
  • Fergus Clydesdale Health and Wellness Center $1,800,000
  • Herbert Hultin Scholarship Fund $75,000
  • Jack Francis Scholarship Fund $58,000
  • Joseph Perrozzi Scholarship Fund $39,000

This tremendous success in development activities has made the Department of Food Science the top fund raising department at the University. This is an amazing fact especially when one considers that we are a small department with much lower numbers of alumni than many other departments on campus. There is no doubt that these development activities have been critical in allowing the department to become one of the top Food Science Departments in the world. Congratulations to all of our loyal alumni and friends of the department. Through your hard work and the dedication of our faculty we hope we have been able to build as much value into your Food Science Degree as possible.

Development

We continue to have an active Development Program. Some of the areas we continue to seek funding include:

  • Chenoweth Renovation for the building of new laboratories
  • Pilot Plant modernization (including donation of food processing equipment)
  • Establishment of Endowed Professorships
