Future Vision

As successful as we have been we cannot stand still because science and the world are constantly offering new opportunities which we want to be a part of. Therefore, we are proposing the following two new initiatives:

FOOD SCIENCE/POLICY ALLIANCE (FSPA)

The complexity of scientific issues surrounding health and its relation to food drugs and supplements requires sound science based policy. Issues such as obesity, health claims, pathogen standards, pesticide residues, genetically modified food and a host of others must be addressed. We therefore propose to establish a Food Science Policy Alliance (FSPA) for initiating and evaluating science based policy nationally and internationally.

CENTER IN HEALTH, WELLNESS, SAFETY AND POLICY

We have the ability to generate bioactive ingredients for health, wellness and safety, to characterize and stabilize these ingredients and to understand their mechanisms of action because we are the only Food Science Department that is emphasizing a multi factorial approach to Health and Wellness through research in metabolic products, physical chemical characterization, food safety, food biotechnology, mechanism of action, nanotechnology and policy fields both nationally and internationally. These two initiatives will put us in a leadership role in these fields both nationally and internationally.
