“Know Your Rights” Immigration Presentation at UMass Set for April 27

April 19, 2017

On Thursday, April 27, UMass System immigration counsel Attorney Sandra Torres will host an information session for the UMass international community focusing on current U.S. immigration regulations and knowing your rights as a non-U.S. citizen. Attorney Torres will be joined by Attorney Megan Kludt from the Northampton immigration law firm Curran & Berger, as well as Attorney Corey Carvalho of the UMass Student Legal Services Office.

This presentation will discuss issues and advice regarding both domestic U.S. and international travel; knowing your rights at airports and other ports of entry; what to do when encountering law enforcement and immigration officers; implications of recent Presidential Executive Orders on travel and visa issuance; and contingencies and emergency contact information. There will be wide-ranging discussion on maintaining lawful immigration status, and external resources and information sharing will also be provided.

This event is free and open to the UMass international community. It will held in room S-140 in the Integrated Learning Center.
