- Public Engagement Project (PEP)
PEP is a collaboration of the Center for
Public Policy & Administration, the Center for Research on Families, the
Department of Sociology, SADRI and the Psychology of Peace & Violence
Concentration. PEP supports and trains faculty members who want their
research to make a difference in the world. Through panels, workshops, and
mutual mentoring, PEP creates opportunities for faculty members to learn new
skills from experts and from each other to improve engagement with the
media, community groups, policymakers, and others in the public arena.
Past panel events include: "Communicating with the Media", "Writing
Op-Eds"and "Working with Social Movements: Lessons from the Front Lines".
On Oct. 28, 2009, PEP held "How to Make Friends and Influence Policy: Working with State and Federal Policymakers". A summary of the event can be found here.
~Care, Work, & Family Policy Group
Each month, faculty from across disciplines and colleges come together to share their work. One member leads the discussion by sharing their particular area or research and a project they are currently working on.
~Stress Working Group
The Center for Research on Families, the Center for Neuroendocrine Studies, and the Psychology Department have established a working group of Five College faculty interested in "stress and resilience." About twenty faculty members from a variety of departments across UMass Amherst and Hampshire, Smith, and Mt. Holyoke colleges, with diverse interests (from neuroendocrinology to psychopathology; from mice and voles to humans; from prenatal development to aging) meet every other week at CRF with aims of working toward future research collaborations, training grants, program projects, and visibility for this substantive area of research. Interests are very broad and run from basic research to clinical/translational application.
