CRF Dissertation Fellowships in Family Research

Two CRF Fellowship awards will be made to individuals who have demonstrated superior potential in any area of family research.

One Predissertation fellowship will be awarded in the amount of $10,000, and is intended for individuals who are currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program at UMass Amherst. The 2016 competition is open to individuals who have completed some graduate study but have not yet advanced to Ph.D. candidacy for the dissertation. The individual will use the award to either support his/her independent research or to assist a faculty member with his/her research on families for the academic year of the award. (If the project you will be working on during your fellowship year is part of your dissertation research, then you should apply for a Dissertation Fellowship)

One Dissertation fellowship in the amount of $10,000 will be given to a UMass Amherst Ph.D. student who exhibits the potential to make an outstanding contribution to the field of family research.  The 2016 competition is open to individuals who have advanced to Ph.D. candidacy for the dissertation (ABD or all but defended). The individual will use the award to support his/her dissertation research. The individual will work on their own independent family research project under the advisement of a faculty member.(Candidacy should be achieved by the start of your fellowship year;  you should have completed all of your masters coursework and moved into doctoral status)

CRF Family Research Methodological Studies Award

Two awards will be given to fund graduate students who wish to attend CRF’s summer Methodology Workshops at UMass Amherst. These workshops will vary in content, but all will introduce innovative research methods and analytical models/tools.

CRF Family Research Travel Award (Spring)

One award of $300 will be given to two UMass Amherst graduate students who have written an outstanding paper or prepared an outsanding poster that documents primary work on family research and will be presenting the paper (panel or lecture) or poster at a national research conference. The paper or poster must already have been accepted for presentation at the conference and the award money will be used exclusively for travel expenses associated with the conference.

CRF Family Research Travel Award (Fall)

 Two seperate awards of $300 will be given to a UMass Amherst graduate student who has written an outstanding paper on issues of family research and will be presenting the paper (panel or lecture) at a national research conference. The paper must already have been accepted for presentation at the conference and the award money will be used exclusively for travel expenses associated with the conference. (Poster submissions alone are not eligible.)
