M.V. Lee Badgett, professor of Economics and director of the Center for Public Policy and Administration (CRF scholar 05), delivered a Distinguished Faculty Lecture on Monday, Nov. 9th.Her lecture was titled “From I Can’t to I Do: When Gay People Get Married.” A recent article was published in the NYTimes about her recent book “When Gay People Get Married: What Happens When Societies Legalize Same-Sex Marriage. ;
Spring 09
Sally Powers, Professor of Psychology and Director of the Center for Research on Families, was recognized for her distinguished achievements through the Distinguished Faculty Lecture Series. The lectures honor individual faculty members and celebrate the value of academic excellence. After the lecture she recieved the Chancellor's Medal, the highest honor bestowed on individuals for exemplary and extraordinary service to the University. Link to lecture.
Michelle Budig (06-07 Scholar) and Joya Misra (04-05 Scholar). A paper written by Michelle Budig and Joya Misra, associate professors of Sociology and CRF scholars, has been chosen the winner of the first World Bank/Luxembourg Income Study Gender Research Award. The prize is for their paper, “How Care Work Shapes Earnings in a Cross-National Perspective,” published by the Luxembourg Income Study (LIS), a cross-national data archive and research institute. Professor Harold D. Grotevant, the Rudd Family Foundation Chair in Psychology and CRF Affiliate, has been named a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science in recognition of his “sustained contributions to the advancement of psychological science.”

JuliAnna Smith, Aline Sayer and Jade Logan (CRF Methdology staff and graduate students) were panelists at the National Council on Family Relations conference in Nov. 2008. The Interdependence of Family Members: Approaches in Multilevel Modeling workshop provided several statistical models useful for the analysis of dyadic data including the longitudinal multivariate outcomes model for distinguishable dyads. Nancy Folbre (07-08 Scholar) was awarded a 2008 Creative Economies Initiative Fund -- a three campus project entitled "Taking Care: The Costs and Contributions of Care Work in Massachusetts".
Paula Pietromonaco (03-04 Scholar) was awarded a five year grant from the National Institutes of Health: "Biopsychosocial Factors in Depression and Marriage: Implications for Cancer."
Michelle J. Budig (06-07 Scholar) was awarded a grant from the National Science Foundation: "Family Policies and the Wage Penalty: A Cross-National and Multi-Level Approach."
Jennifer Hickes Lundquist (06-07 Scholar) was awarded a grant from the National Science Foundation: "Race and Infant Health OUtcomes in the U.S.Military."
Jennifer Foster (06-07 Scholar - now at Emory University) was awarded an NIH Community Participation grant for her research in the Dominican Republic.
