Martha Balaguera, Ph.D. student in political science, presented a paper on the concept of hospitality at the NPSA annual meeting. In a letter to CRF she wrote, This was a great opportunity to get feedback on my work, which is for now mainly theoretical, involving and engagement with readings of Kant, Derrida Arendt and Benhabib. Through the dialogue with the participants, fellow presenter and discussant, it became all the more apparent how this paper is connected to my broader interest in democracy, as well as how I could further research the profound implications of this topic for migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, and full-rights citizens as ethically political actors. Also, Philadelphia offered an enriching, engaging and friendly environment, and I value the experience of having presented for the first time outside UMass at this conference."
