Eiko Hiraoka Strader is a fourth year doctoral student in the Sociology Department at University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her studies focus on work and family, gender inequality in labor market, and welfare states. Eiko's current project examines the relationship between single motherhood and poverty in Japan to understand the impact of wage structure and the state of current welfare programs. She is also working as a research assistant for Dr. Joya Misra and Dr. Stephanie Moller (University of North Carolina at Charlotte) on several comparative historical projects analyzing the relationship between inequality and welfare state policies cross-nationally and in the United States.
