David A. Kenny , Alumni and Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor of Psychology, University of Connecticut, Storrs
David A. Kenny is interested in the study of naturalistic social behavior and models of such behavior. He has focused most of his research attention on dyadic models of person perception. Using the Social Relations Model, he has studied agreement in person perception, accuracy of perception, the relationship between self and other perception, the surprising validity of minimal information, and the accuracy of meta-perception. Besides models of dyadic processes, he has studied triadic and group processes and is currently working on detailed models of nonverbal sensitivity and group processes. He continues to work in the areas of structural equation modeling and quasi-experimental evaluation.
Abstract: "Moderator Effect in the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model"
Presentation outline is available by clicking here.
In the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model (APIM) there are two effects: the effect of a causal variable on the person's own response, an actor effect, and the effect of a causal variable on the partner's response, a partner effect. Moderator effects, especially of partner effects, are often of central interest. For instance, relational closeness might moderate the strength of partner effects. However, within the APIM, the analysis of moderator variables can be very complex. As an example, in studies of indistinguishable dyads (husbands and wives), there are potentially 16 different moderator effects. Methods for making moderator effects with the APIM simpler and easier to interpret are described. Additionally, several empirical examples are given.
