ARTISTS AND CULTURAL ORGANIZATIONS:

Scores of cultural organizations and individual artists reside in western Massachusetts, contributing immeasurably to the quality of life in our region. In an effort to support this work, we have assembled a sampling of resources to help these creative folks to plan and promote their programs and events.

Elevate the Creative Economy: Upper Valley Creative Economy Summit Monday, April 26, 2004
    Western MA Arts Alliance steering committee member, Judy Steinkamp, presented a session on "The Role of Education in the Development of the Creative Workforce" that discussed the Alliance and its impact on the creative economy in Western Massachusetts
Building Arts Partnerships
    On November 1, 2000, the University reconvened key administrators from the University and from cultural and educational institutions in the western Massachusetts community to begin to address the needs articulated in the earlier Forum for Partnerships in the Arts.

Hidden Tech Matchmaking Session
    WMAA Steering Committee Member, Christine Texiera, will be presenting on a panel discussion at this program designed to reach small business owners who are interested in working with non-profits (in a volunteer or reduced fee capacity) on computer projects. Representatives of non-profit arts and cultural organizations are encouraged to attend!

Past Alliance Programs and Publications
Reinforcing Critical Links Planning Summit
    The forum featured discussion of practical strategies for using the research and of implications for: Advocacy, Research, Teacher preparation, Assessment, Curriculum development, Transfer of Learning.
Forum for Funding in the Arts
    This event introduced participants to funding options for regional art programs and initiatives. The event included a panel discussion featuring representatives from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, Massachusetts Foundation for the Humanities and the Massachusetts Service Alliance.
Learning Partnerships in the Arts
    At this event, participants were updated on the activities of the working groups met since the last forum in November, after which Dr. Craig Dreeszen, Director of the Arts Extension Service at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, presented a structured workshop on his nationally-acclaimed "Learning Partnerships" program.
Making a Living as an Artist
    A panel of artists and service providers discussed professional development opportunities available to individual artists in Western Massachusetts. Panelists discussed information and ideas about business planning, career development,funding opportunities and statewide organizations that serve artists. Sponsored by the Massachusetts Cultural Council and the Western Massachusetts Arts Alliance, the event was free and open to the public
Forum for Partnerships in the Arts
    On May 24, 2000, the University invited key administrators from the University and from cultural and educational institutions in the western Massachusetts community to explore the topic of partnerships in the arts. The Forum had two primary goals: (1) to assess the needs of community partners in building partnerships with the University and (2) to faciliate networking between campus organizations and community partners.
