FORUM FOR FUNDING IN THE ARTS
This event introduced participants to funding options for regional art programs and initiatives. The event included a panel discussion featuring representatives from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, Massachusetts Foundation for the Humanities and the Massachusetts Service Alliance. Two break out sessions followed the panel discussion, "Introduction to Computerized Funding Sources" and "The Funding Pie: Completing the Picture." In addition, a Resource Room provided participants with opportunities to interact with funding agency representatives as well as to learn where to find information about funding sources at regional libraries. The Forum was co-sponsored by the UMass Arts Council, the Western Massachusetts Arts Alliance, the Office of Research Affairs, the Arts Extension Service and the Springfield Museums. This session is designed to introduce participants to the options of searching for a variety of funding opportunities using computerized databases. The Massachusetts Foundation Directory and FC Search from the Foundation Center will be featured along with other electronic tools and helpful hints on using the technology to simplify your funding search. The presenters also prepared a handout with links to arts funding opportunities.

Grants to non-profit agencies are just one source of funds that should make up the financial pie chart of an agency. Matching funds, individual donor contributions, in-kind contributions and earned income strategies contribute to organizational stability in tentative times. Shirley Sneve of Arts Extension Service gives an overview of considerations in developing a variety of funding sources that can contribute to organizational success.
