The all-volunteer Alliance operates through a working group structure: members of the steering committee and community collaborate on various projects, and these groups disband when the project is complete. Currently, the following working groups are active:
This group will work on the development of programs, convenings
and other efforts aimed at unifying the four counties of western
Massachusetts through the arts and culture. Marc Lambert, lead.
This group will work on the development of a convening of cultural
alliance leaders in the state and region. Erin Williams, lead.
This group will continue to edit and publish the email newsletter,
and to seek continuation funding to support its publication. Susan
Sauve, lead. (Dyan Wiley, lead, on funding for the newsletters)
This group is completing forms and other required paperwork to
incorporate the Alliance in the state of Massachusetts. Marie
Waechter, lead.
This group is assessing the feasibility and working on the development
of a new portal web site that is based on the www.portalwisconsin.org
model. Funding received from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting
to develop this site. Christine Texiera and Rus Peotter, co leads.

last year, but have now disbanded after the successful completion
of their projects):
This
group planned an annual meeting for the Alliance that was held
on May 27, 2004. Erin Williams, lead.
This
group attempted to develop a half-day conference to explore best
practices in arts integration (how to integrate the arts with
other subject areas in the schools), but funding was not received
and project could not go forth. Maren Brown, lead.
This group participated in a regional branding survey to underscore
the importance of arts and culture in western Massachusetts. Nora
Maroulis, lead. This
group wrote a funding proposal to support a cultural census of
the western Massachusetts region. Funding decision still pending.
Shirley Sneve, lead.
This group sought to assist in the planning of the Massachusetts
Cultural Council's cultural tourism conference to be held in the
spring of 2004. Funding not received, so MCC canceled conference.
Shirley Sneve, lead.
This group developed a new format for the email newsletter and
a system for registering people who want to receive email newsletters
(now integrated into this web site). This group was also responsible
for seeking funding to support the compilation and editing of
future newsletters. Funding received from 25 local cultural councils

This group assisted with the development of the New England Artist
Educators conference (NECAP) held in June 25, 2004 at Holyoke's
Open Square building. Priscilla Kane-Hellweg, lead.
This group helped to plan a panel
discussion held at the Northampton Film Festival Rus Peotter,
lead. This group
wrote, designmed and developed the Alliance's new web site. Judy
Steinkamp, lead.
