Title: How Private Faith Functions in the Public
Location: New York, NY
My work is about how private faith functions in the public. I'm exploring what it means to carry a belief outside of yourself. How do things like prayer, worship, service, etc. operate in arenas where people believe different things? I try to navigate between propaganda and censorship. The images I've included are a variety of projects in which I've attempted to explore these questions- warning signs for spirituality, portable church furniture, public prayer booths, reflective safety choir robes, etc. I try to balance sarcasm and sincerity, humor and seriousness in a way that allows people to confront spiritual issues that are often avoided, abstracted, or treated cynically.
