Change is good. Change moves us forward and upward; it energizes and emboldens. Change stimulates the brain and activates the imagination. And so we’ve changed! Wheeler Gallery is now Central Gallery. The new name reflects the gallery's mission: to make contemporary art by UMass and 5-College students, as well as by local and regional emerging artists, a central part of the cultural experience on campus. The change to Central Gallery represents a step forward in bringing community and campus constituencies together.

Central Gallery is an intimate space suitable for two- and three-dimensional works. The gallery is now accepting proposals from local artists for solo or group exhibitions in 2001-2002. For submission information, contact Anne LaPrade at 413-545-0680.

Located in the Central Residential Area, the gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 3 to 6pm and Sunday’s from 2 to 5pm. All events are free and the public is welcome. Central Gallery’s fall exhibition schedule features solo painting shows by artists from Amherst, Northampton, and Springfield. For more information on the Central Gallery, call the gallery at 413-545-0680 or check out the Fine Arts Center website at www.fineartscenter.com.
