The Fine Arts Center Celebrates Amherst\222s 250th Birthday with a Free Lit Series  It's a month-long party dedicated to Amherst's rich literary history. In celebration of Amherst's 250th Anniversary, the Fine Arts Center is collaborating with the UMass MFA Program for Poets and Writers, and the
Juniper Literary Festival to present a month-long series of readings, a journal and press fair, and a literary scavenger hunt for families -- and it's all free.
The series gets started April 1 through the 30th with a Literary Scavenger Hunt for families with young children throughout downtown Amherst. Families can start anywhere and there's a small prize awarded at each location if the clue is solved. For participating businesses, clues and a map visit http://www.fineartscenter.com/amherstlit.
On Thursday, April 2 at 7PM at Wünderarts Gallery in Amherst, there will be a New Writers Reading where the public can hear some of our local, young award-winning authors read from their new books. Featured will be Chris Bachelder, Elizabeth Hughey, Jedediah Berry, and Lisa Olstein. Refreshments are generously provided by Portabella Catering.

Known for its gutsy, passionate music-making, I Musici de Montréal presents imaginative programs that draw on repertoire spanning the centuries. Celebrating 25 years, the orchestra is on tour in the Unites States and will make a stop at the UMass Fine Arts Center Concert Hall on Sunday, April 5 at 3PM. Performing an all-Russian program, the highlight will be Mussorgsky's famed Pictures at an Exhibition performed with animated projections of new paintings by Natasha Turovsky. The acclaimed new interpretations are accompanied by breathtaking imagery projected on a large screen on-stage. The evening's program also includes Alexander Borodine's Notturno and Tchaikovsky's Sextet in D minor, op. 70, Souvenirs de Florence. There will be a pre-performance discussion by visual artist /violinist Natasha Turovsky at 2:15PM in the University Gallery.

A veteran of the bands of John Carter, Archie Shepp, Henry Threadgill and others, Bronx-born Terry Jenoure is a wide-ranging visual and performing artist, and curator of the Fine Arts Center's Augusta Savage Gallery. "From Billy Bang's violin comes everything we know about black music and a lot we have yet to learn about rhythm, subtlety and swing," writes Ntozake Shange. The passion and fire of Charles Burnham has graced the work of Cassandra Wilson, James Blood Ulmer, Steven Bernstein and Medeski, Martin & Wood.
The Magic Triangle Jazz Series continues with the Ganelin Trio Priority (April 28). Tickets are $12/general public and $7/students and are available through the Fine Arts Center Box Office, 1-800-999-UMAS. | The Best of Project 2050! 10th Year of the New WORLD Theater's Visionary Youth Program  The 10th year of New WORLD Theater's innovative youth program is here! To celebrate, Project 2050 members and alumni are looking to the past and recreating some of the most exciting moments from previous performances for the Best of 2050! 2050 artists Aisha Jordan, vocalist, and choreographers Kenny Jones, Rokafella and Kwikstep were in residence to rehearse and Teo Castellanos, is directing this once in a decade show! The evening will include new takes on pieces from performances such as Conflict. Nation. Freedom. (2002), Environmentality (2004), On the Frontlines: Sex, War, and Lies (2005), and The Love in Revolution (2007).

This panel will examine the (multi-)cultural, interdisciplinary,
contextual challenges museums face in order to appropriately exhibit works of art and to create a platform for genuine dialogue between the artist and the curator, and between the curator and other cultures.
Our distinguished panelists Matthew Higgs (director of White Columns, artist, critic and writer), Susan Vogel (Columbia University, African art expert, film maker), and Hamza Walker (Renaissance Society, award winning
curator and writer) will examine the (multi-)cultural, interdisciplinary, contextual challenges museums face in order to appropriately exhibit works of art and to create a platform for genuine dialogue between the artist and the curator, and between the curator and other cultures.

Featuring the trumpet of renowned Japanese jazz musician, Tiger Okoshi and
the thundering six foot drums of Odaiko New England, the program includes
