Spotlight for March 11, 2009 > A Capella Group CANTUS Comes to Fine Arts Center
A Capella Group CANTUS Comes to Fine Arts Center
Performance Scheduled for Thursday, March 12 at 7:30PM

America's newest full-time vocal ensemble sings with one of the freshest and most engaging sounds in choral music today. From art songs to folk songs, from Smokey Robinson to Richard Strauss, Cantus' brilliant sound, innovative programming and heart-felt singing have garnered the highest praise from critics and audiences alike. The singers—solo quality all—produce a wonderfully warm, gutsy and masculine sounds as well as a kind of smooth delivery, overtly emotionality, and uncanny sense of ensemble. They have a peerless gusto—a sense of boundless joy in music making. "Cantus' sonic blend was so beaming and elastic that it seemed to originate as a single, gorgeous variegated voice": The Washington Post.

Cantus will perform on Thursday, March 12 at 7:30PM at Bowker Auditorium on the UMass campus.

For information on tickets, call the Fine Arts Center Box Office at 545-2511 or 800-999-UMAS, or visit us online at the FAC Box Office on the web.

Peter Tolan and the Bowker Auditorium Project
UMass Alumnus Makes Gift in Support of a Performance Venue

Got Sound?

Well, our Bowker Auditorium will have--new "state of the art" sound--as part of a major renovation of the auditorium next year.

Bowker Auditorium is the "Center" stage for not only the Fine Arts Center but for also the Theater Guild, Amherst Community Theater, and a variety of other community organizations. Peter Tolan, former FAC student, honorary alumnus, and celebrated screen-writer, acknowledged the importance of this project with his personal gift of $25,000.

You can join him in clearing the sound waves with a gift to the Bowker Sound System Project by visiting our online page or by calling 413-545-3671.
