| March Events > Art in Science Exhibit |
Art in Science Exhibit In our continuing effort to bring together the arts and sciences, The Fine Arts Center has collaborated with VISUAL (Ventures in Science Using Art Laboratory) to present an exhbit of images directly from science. Each captivating image is a direct experimental result from research conducted on the Amherst Campus. The result is astounding. Will be on display in the Fine Arts Center lobby from March 8 - March 12. | That's What Sets Us Apart! Last year, over 125 educational activities reached lifelong leaners in public schools, in our communities, and on campus. Each of the Fine Arts Center's programs weaves workshops, talkbacks, and opportunities for artist-community exchange into their offerings. We not only provide the entertainment, but also the educational components to enhance understanding, enjoyment, and create a dialogue that can be heard throughout the region. That's what setus us apart! Your gifts help make these residencies possible. Contributions may be made by calling 413-545-3671 or going online to www.fineartscenter.com. | A Tropical Fantasy Another Successful Event KUDOS to JoAnne Finck, Motoko Inoue and the Gala Committee for creating a Tropical Fantasy that warmed the spirits of more than 350 guests. The event honored Yusef Lateef, Grammy Award-winning composer, performer, recording artist, author, educator and philosopher, as the Fine Arts Center Artist of the Year. It also netted $40,000 for the Center’s educational residencies which connect artists with our on- and off- campus communities.
Thank you to all the volunteers, sponsors and donors who were involved with this splendid evening. | Duurbaar (unstoppable) Journey into horizon Duurbaar literally means unstoppable in Bengali, and is inspired by the relentless striving of women around the world to keep going, to realize a horizon when there is none visible, to create light when all seems dark.New WORLD Theater brings presents this new work by Ananya Dance Theatre which builds on their history of addressing the multiple, interconnected forms of violence against women, recognizing experiences of pain and loss, and celebrating a quest for meaningful survival. Wednesday, March 14 in Bowker Auditorium at 8pm. | The Tempest / La TempÊte Shakespeare like you've never seen After having dazzled audiences with other high-tech performances 4D Art brings their production of La Tempête/The Tempest to the Fine Arts Center Concert Hall on Monday, March 12 at 7:30pm.
Thanks to the virtual technology at their disposal, spells, visions and poetry create a previously unimaginable storm that appeals not only to the senses, but also to the mind, conveying the dreamy opulence of the work.
In this daring production, there are only four actual human beings present on stage; Ariel, Prospero, Miranda and Ferdinand. The other performers are ghostly holographic-like projections which appear life-sized, larger than life and as close-ups. Learn more here |
