Central GalleryOne Door Closes; Another Door Opens

May 16 will mark the closing of Central Gallery. Starting in September, 2011, Central Gallery will be consolidated with Hampden Gallery in the Southwest Residential Area. The two galleries share a director, gallery manager, and student staff, so the transition is a natural one.

Central Gallery is located in Wheeler House, which in the past year has switched to swipe-card security resulting in it no longer being an appropriate venue for a program with a public constituency.

Hampden Gallery, with its associated Incubator Project Space and Studio Gallery space, will accommodate the Central Gallery programming,

Gallery Director Anne LaPrade Seuthe, says, "Change is good. The consolidation will make better use of our resources. It's important for our gallery visitors to have easy access to the exhibitions and it's good for our artists to have a robust audience. We have a rich program of exhibitions and events scheduled for next year, so the timing is perfect. One door closes; another door opens."

Hiatus@The FAC Takes a Break until August

The @The FAC newsletter will be suspended until August. When we start up again we'll bring you all the news about the new season's fabulous offerings. (For now, take a look at the Preview linked in the left column.)

The summer is still a busy time for much of the FAC staff: we'll be rolling out a new website before the season starts, and the production of the season-wide brochure will begin soon.

From all of us here at the FAC, we wish you a pleasant and relaxing summer. See you again soon!

Untitled by Marcie PaperSeason Finale! Hillside Alumni Salon at the UMCA

The season's grand finale of Hillside Salons on Friday, May 20 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the UMCA coincides with UMass Alumni Weekend. The presentations by accomplished UMass alumni Roberley Bell, Christen Couture, Michael LeBlanc, Marcie Paper, and Carolyn Webb include architecture design, painting, sculpture, and site-specific installation art.

The fast-paced presentations will be followed by a spirited conversation, led by Sabine Holub, with artists and the audience. In customary Hillside salon fashion, the event will offer live music, wine and beer, and amuse-bouches.

The salon is free and open to the public but registration is required. To attend, please contact Rebecca Dufault at hillside@umass.edu or 545-4336.

This gatheringĀ is co-sponsored with Hillside and the Alumni Office.
