When we were beginning to put the November/December Spotlight together, it was right during the time when our country experienced the kind of shock and sorrow that until then was usually reserved for other parts of the world - but certainly not ours. As I wrote this, I was trying to imagine how we would be feeling in November - the time of thanksgiving and charity. Would we have recovered all who were lost from the attack on America? Would we be entrenched in military action of some kind? As you read this now, those questions may have been answered..

It was hard for the staff to focus on writing about upcoming arts events at the Fine Arts Center. Difficult to think about the joy and cultural enrichment the arts can bring to people at a time like this. But the Center’s deputy director Marie Hess reminded me one morning, that the arts have the amazing ability to heal and to lift the human spirit beyond the depths of sorrow and hate. And that’s why we’re here. She’s absolutely right.

So with that in mind, we are pleased to offer this special edition of Spotlight. It’s special because it includes the Fine Arts Center’s Annual Message for the 2000-2001 season. This report provides you highlights of last year’s 25th Anniversary season, a financial report, and recognition of all our Friends. You’ll also find the center-wide calendar and articles about upcoming Fine Arts Center events. It is our hope that you will find an event to share with your friends or family and that the experience will lift your spirits.
