Intersection is New WORLD Theater's biennial conference and festival examining new work practices by artists of color and showcasing multidisciplinary theater pieces on the cutting edge of new aesthetics. Begun in 1998, the conference is a diverse national gathering of artists, educators, organizers, activists, scholars, theater professionals and presenters. As an organization that bridges the worlds of creativity and scholarship, community activism and professional performance, NWT is committed to furthering national conversations on cultural equity, emerging aesthetics and activism through the arts.

INTERSECTION IV: Re/Generations April 7-9, 2006
Intersection IV: Re/Generations - a truly intergenerational, cross-cultural gathering, investigating historical models and new directions in multicultural performing arts and activism.

Keynote Address by Palestinian-American poet SUHEIR HAMMAD, 1:30 pm, Mahar Auditorium. FREE EVENT. Co-sponsored with the Distinguished Visitor's Program.

Continuity and Movement:A Future Aesthetics Showcase featuring Baba and Steve Ben Israel, Mango Tribe, olive Dance Theatre with Paula Larke and more.

All shows at 8 pm in Bowker Auditorium (unless otherwise noted.) Tickets are: $15- General Public; $8-Seniors/Low Income;
$5-Students (with I.D.) Call FAC Box Office for tickets: 413-545-2511. Conference attendees: performances are included with conference registration.

ARTIST WORKSHOPS

These workshops are offered throughout the conference and often during concurrent sessions. We encourage you to refer to the conference schedule when making your choices. Pre-registration for workshops is required and is a part of your registration confirmation process (via email.) And space is limited!

FRIDAY APRIL 7

3 - 5 PM • Artist Workshop # 1 (for early conference arrivals: pre-registration required!)
Rituals of Vigilance: A Dance-Theater Workshop
with Dora Arreola of Mujeres en Ritual Danza-Teatro. This workshop will explore the topics of "borders," "security," and "the other" through movement improvisation based in pre-structured rituals of vigilance.   Exercises will include spatial orientation, rhythm, and movement exchange leading to real human connection.

The Art of Weaving Faiths: an interfaith practice & workshop on Spiritual Activism
with Nobuko Miyamoto and Kamau Ayubbi

11:45 Am - 1:45 PM
Artist Workshop # 2 - Urban Voice: Unorthodox Chants

with Akim Funk Buddha, internationally known performance artist & MC.
An experience in throat singing, human beat box, mouth percussion & vocal sound, open to all!

4:15 - 6 :15 PM
Artist Workshop # 3  - Tracing Our Bodies' Power

with Ananya Chatterjea of Ananya Dance Theater
A movement-based workshop to examine the ideologies that reside in our dancing bodies.   Work together towards understanding how dance can be an active shaper in the movement towards social change. What constitutes "authenticity"? How can dance become a shared medium between different communities even as we value cultural specificity and particular aesthetics?
Movement based on deconstructions of the Odissi dance form, Chhau, and yoga. Come dressed to move!
