ASIAN AND ASIAN AMERICAN WOMENS ARCHIVE

Inaugurated in 1993, the Uno Asian American Women Playwrights' Archive is housed in Special Collections on the 25th Floor of the W.E.B. DuBois Library at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

The archive contains over 200 plays written by Asian American women, from the 1920's to the present. In addition to manuscripts of play texts, the archive includes production histories, playwright biographies, reviews, articles, and audio and videotaped interviews. Playwrights in the archive include Brenda Wong Aoki, Jeannie Barroga, Marina Feleo Gonzales, Jessica Hagedorn, Velina Hasu Houston, Genny Lim, lê thi diem thúy, Ling-Ai Li, Victoria Nalani Kneubuhl, Nobuko Miyamoto, Bina Sharif, and Diana Son.

The archive serves different communities; it contains information useful not only to scholars, but also to directors, actors, and producers who might be interested in working with scripts from a growing and important repertory.

Access to the archive is through the Special Collections office at (413) 545-2780 or by writing Special Collections, 25th Floor, W.E.B. DuBois Library, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA 01003. Archive hours are Monday-Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Because varying restrictions apply, requests for xeroxing of specific plays must be directed to the Special Collections office at the W.E.B. Dubois Library, University of MA.
