The Last Day of The World Trade Towers: 9.11 NYC

Slim, sleek, silver towers, very 21st Century

Those beacons of world interaction

Gone in twenty minutes

            Diminishing our numbers

            Diminishing our hope

            Diminishing

Later, coming home, at the curve in the road

Under a heavy canopy of late summer green

A slash of bright coral maple leaves

            Emerges in a flash

            Sudden

            Unexpected

I catch my breath...In a burst of grateful joy...For the safety in my life this day...

This thought against a background

sky of brilliant blue and

            Two towers, two planes

            Smoke

            Debris

A landscape changed forever.
