Different is Good
The Upper Valley from Holyoke to Brattleboro is a famously "different" place. It's called the Happy Valley, and for a good reason. People come to
the Valley for it's liberal, open-minded lifestyle, it's beautiful scenery,
and it's dedication to arts and culture of all kinds. 93.9 The River is
programmed for the people of the Upper Valley, the core of which is in
Northampton, Greenfield, and the surrounding areas. River listeners are
well-educated baby boomers with incomes well above the national average.
They are both men and women (50-50) with an age range between 25 and 55.
They tune in to The River for sophisticated, adventurous music variety, and
for the connection it gives them to their community.
Community Involvement:
~Monte Belmonte camped out on the Hampshire County Courthouse lawn in Northampton in late March of 2008 to raise $10,000 for the Cancer Connection. The Cancer Connection offers support programs to cancer survivors and their families as a complement to traditional medical
treatment.
~In February '08, The River adopted a Habitat for Humanity home and assisted in the project from start to finish.
~The River has joined up with Strolling of the Heifers. This week-long celebration in Southern Vermont helps promote awareness of the importance of agriculture to Vermont and the Connecticut River Valley and raises money to fund agricultural programs for youth.
~The River joined with Safe Passage to support their annual fundraiser. Safe Passage serves women and their children, primarily from the Hampshire County area, who have experienced domestic violence.
