NPR News & Music for Western New England

For nearly 50 years, 88.5FM WFCR, NPR news and music for western New England, has been broadcasting to western and central Massachusetts, northern Connecticut, southern Vermont, and New Hampshire. We reach nearly 200,000 individual listeners each week. Over 85% of our operating funds come from our contributing listeners and regional businesses.

WFCR's mission is to provide the area with diverse news, information, music and cultural programs of the highest quality. WFCR is committed to programs that entertain, educate, and inform in a lively, provocative, varied, and sensitive way. We help listeners explore and enjoy the world around them and enhance the quality of their lives.

As part of a national public radio system, WFCR offers programs from such highly respected networks as National Public Radio, American Public Media, and Public Radio International. WFCR brings listeners acclaimed news and information programs like All Things Considered and Morning Edition . We also broadcast uniquely entertaining programs such as A Prairie Home Companion and Car Talk . Our locally produced programs feature classical, jazz, environmental, and our own award-winning local news.

In April of 2007 WFCR commenced broadcasting on the 50,000 watt 640AM WNNZ. The broadcast area of WNNZ covers most of that of WFCR but adds a significant increase in coverage in New York and Vermont. WNNZ's programming consists of news, talk, and entertainment thereby providing yet another source of quality programming for listeners throughout the region.

WFCR and WNNZ are not, however, just buildings and studios. As the voice of our community, these stations play a vital community role in sponsoring cultural and community events throughout our listening area. The web site-wfcr.org-offers live web streaming, audio archives, daily play lists, and ongoing information on regional events through the Arts Calendar. In addition, we also sponsor internships for students from throughout the area.

WFCR-and its many venues of service-is more than just a radio station; it's a member in full standing of the community it serves and, as such, takes its place as a unique service, without which the quality of life in western New England would be significantly diminished.

Public radio depends upon its contributing listeners and underwriters for support. To ensure that comprehensive quality public radio programming continues, please support WFCR. Visit wfcr.org for more information.
