WHERE IS THE FINE ARTS CENTER?
Due to the size of the FAC organization, there are actually several answers to this sometimes bewildering question.
The buildings:
The Fine Arts Center building is located between the Campus Pond and the Haigis Mall. Fine Arts Center performances may take place in a number of the performance spaces within this building (Concert Hall, Bezanson Hall, Curtain Theater, etc). Often, Fine Arts Center events are also held at Bowker Auditorium, the Student Union Ballroom, the Campus Center Auditorium, and even on other campuses!
The organization:
The Fine Arts Center is a collection of programs, each determining its own offerings. The programs of the Fine Arts Center are the Center Series, New World Theater, Asian Dance and Music, Performances Plus! , Jazz in July, Residential Arts, The University Gallery, Hampden and Central Galleries, Augusta Savage Gallery. The administrative offices of many of these programs are located around the UMass campus.
For more information about directions or parking, including campus maps, visit our Ticket and Visitor Information Page.
JOB OPPORTUNITIES, ACADEMIC CREDIT, OR JUST GET INVOLVED!
Work-Study:
The Fine Arts Center Marketing and Development Office currently is looking for student office assistants for Spring '07. Office assistants will answer phones, do general clerical tasks, on-campus errands, bulk mailings, data-entry, typing, and will occasionally be asked to help with evening events. 10-15 hours/wk. Access to a car is a plus but is not required. Pay starts at $7.50. You MUST have workstudy to be considered. Click here to download an application.
You can also try looking at other student employment options within the greater University community. UMass Student Employment Services maintains a website with a list of all work-study and non-work-study jobs open to students both on and off campus.
Academic Credit:
As a part of the University community, the Fine Arts Center makes itself available for students to earn academic credit via internships, practicum, and independent studies. If you want to learn about arts administration, audien ce services, marketing, production services, or any of the many jobs that make the Fine Arts Center tick, talk to a member of our staff.
Try looking in our directory for the appropriate person to talk to. Our staff will be happy to discuss your options with you. You may want to speak with your advisor first, as you will need a faculty sponsor.
Volunteer Opportunities:
The Fine Arts Center needs student volunteers! Volunteers often serve as ushers or perform other duties to make sure that FAC events run smoothly. If you are interested, please contact Heather Bell, FAC Audience Services Manager, at (413) 545-0480 or hbell@acad.umass.edu for more information.
Q: "I live off-campus. How can I get to FAC events?"
A:
During the school year, the Five-College area is serviced by a reliable and free bus service called the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority (PVTA). Many of the PVTA busses stop at the Haigis Mall, directly in front of the Fine Arts Center! Their website has maps, schedules, and lots more. Go to www.pvta.com.
Of course, if you have a car, you can just drive to the Fine Arts Center.
Directions and parking information can be found on our Visitor Information page.
