Sustainable Landscape and Garden Tour Bicycle Friendly! Saturday, May 1 from 9:30am to approximately 4pm
In conjunction with the project Greening the Valley: Sustainable Architecture in the Pioneer Valley, the University Museum of Contemporary Art is offering an all-day guided tour of select outdoor spaces addressing sustainable practices in the Amherst/Northampton area.
The tour allows you to follow a designated bike route or use other leisurely means of transportation. We have arranged car pooling for your convenience. Please visit RideBuzz.org to join.
We will start at 9:30 AM at the University Visitor Center parking lot where people can park, unload their bikes, or organize into car pools. The morning is spent in Amherst visiting a residential garden and a landscape around a parking lot, a new approach to water runoff. The morning concludes with a talk on farmland preservation and river protection with a representative of the Kestrel Land Trust.
In the afternoon we will explore the urban sustainable gardens and micro farms in Northampton as well as creative sharing of resources in a small community.
