Five College students with ID and children $5Re-Orientalism is a new collaborative work by Armenian composer and oud virtuoso Alan Shavarsh Bardezbanian, Palestinian poet Suheir Hammad, and Egyptian designer, multi-media artist and percussionist Karim Mohammed. Based on the writings of Edward Said, the work will include original and traditional instrumental and vocal music, spoken text translated between English and several Asian languages, projected visual imagery, and several cameo appearances by notable actors, musicians and martial artists. The ³pocket opera² piece will explore the themes of orientalism, the Westıs simultaneous romanticization and fear of Islam and Asia.
