Five College students with ID and children $5Using Nicaraguan history as both a backdrop and a foundation, La Casa de Rigoberta Mira Al Sur is a multifaceted piece that incorporates poetry, dialogue, and monologue in order to mediate between a dead national past and the uncertain crises of the present. The work uses, as one of its primary narrative threads, the complicated history of Nicaragua, which is embodied by a young female protagonist - it is through her actions and her voice that the audience is told stories of war, desolation, and mutilation. The young protagonist shares the stage with her grandmother, who reveals another side of Nicaraguan history that includes mentions of misery, injustice, and the indigenous peoples movement. Two other characters are included in the work - the young girls parents - who speak specifically about the Sandinista Revolution. History and memory poetically coexist in this work, and the issue of national narrative is complicated with the revelation of multiple stories.
