SUMMER SEASON 2006

Eyewitness Blues

Wednesday, November 12 - Thursday, November 13, 2003

8pm, Northampton Center for the Arts
Tickets: $15; seniors and low income $8; Five College students with ID and children $5

Caught between an "art and its hard place," a composer is haunted by the rhythms of familiar stories that are looking for endings. Told but never answered is a neighborhood folktale that grows into an urban legend. This real folks tale invokes the search for a kid named Junior in the faces, names, places, and mouths of local gossip, hearsayers, and just plain old storytellers. In Eyewitness Blues, performers Steven Sapp and Mildred Ruiz team up with arranger/composers Paul Thompson and Carlos Pimentel to orchestrate a narrative rooted in the flavor of Black and Latino expression, summoning Miles Davis' Sketches of Spain and a tale from around the way to give birth to a new kind of cool.
