Crossing the Water, Changing the Air is an interdisciplinary performance piece based on the experiences of the Interfaith Pilgrimage of the Middle Passage. This twelve-month journey retraced the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade routes in 1998.
Askew writes, “This play came about because I felt a deep need to tell the pilgrimage story; the journey was auspicious, wonderful, traumatic. Twelve months is a long time to spend focusing on one thing; in this case, just walking the earth.” |
