Laura "Lola" Baltzell
Bright Promises

Laura "Lola" Baltzell is represented by DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park Corporate Program in Lincoln, Ma. She is also a member of Cambridge Art Association, Atlantic Works Gallery (East Boston) and Windham Gallery in Brattleboro, VT. She is an active participant in the Cambridge Art Association in the Sales and Rental program and shows frequently at both Cambridge Art Association and Atlantic Works. She is a new member at Windham Art Gallery. She lives in Leyden and Brookline, MA.

Bright Promises is an exploration in mixed media collage.
Baltzell's previously worked primarily in oils which lends itself to the multiple transparent layers that make up her surfaces. That technique is extended into her new collage work, to which she adds ephemera, both text and images. Her work and the title of the exhibition refers to the bright promises of childhood which may or may not have been realized; spirituality; coming to terms with a haunting parental legacy; an acknowledgement of life's lack of roadmaps and pre-set patterns to follow.
