![]() Black Sufis of India and Africa ![]() Tuesday, October 4, 2005 Bezanson Music Recital Hall 7:00 pm The Sidis of India are a diffused, segregated population originating in Africa centuries or perhaps millennia ago. The Gujerati Sidis are Muslim Sufis dedicated to Bava Gor, a black African saint who is celebrated in their music and dance. Amy Catlin Jairazbhoy's research, writing, teaching, curatorial activities, and multi-media publications often have an applied focus, aimed at community development of minority traditions, especially in diasporic settings. She served as a curator for Sidi Goma and presented the group's first concert tour outside of India in September 2002, travelling with them in England and Wales.
