If you have already had a brainstorming session, deciding who will be your program partners/sponsors has already been done-they are the ones who helped you to brainstorm! If you have not chosen your programming partners/sponsors, read on...
Although many programs originate with one individual, enlisting other people to assist with the planning and presentation of an art event is crucial to its success. How can you recruit these program partners/sponsors? First, begin by determining who would be best suited to help you with your program, event or exhibit. Below is a list of organizations who might provide the support you need to help organize an event.
First of all, think about your project. Define it. Categorize it. Is it theater, dance, music, visual arts, film? Perhaps it is some combination of these. Next ask yourself who is most likely to attend this event? Is it students who are studying a particular subject area? Are fraternities or sororities most likely to attend? Finally, ask yourself which organizations put on similar events on campus. Do you remember seeing a poster or an ad with a program that looked similar to your own? These questions should be fairly easy to answer since you have already done your visualization and/or brainstorming. You have done it, haven't you?
You have now created a composite picture of your ideal program partner/sponsor. This unnamed organization reaches the audiences you want to reach and it even sponsors similar events. How do you find them? You may have already abandoned this text already, having one of those terrific ahaa! moments where you know exactly where to go. If so, congratulations!
