Program/Service Notes:
DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES: GEO represents approximately 2,500 graduate employees at UMass/ Amherst. We are a unit of UAW Local 2322, based in Northampton, which also represents manufacturing, day care, human service, and fundraising employees. The international union we are a part of is the United Auto Workers (UAW). Through our local and the UAW we have access to experienced staff and the UAWâs research, health and safety, and legal departments; help with negotiations, grievances, and arbitration; political action; education and training; union publications and more. GEO is in the forefront of fighting for social justice on this Campus and nationally. GEO is committed to making public education accessible for all students at UMass/Amherst. Since 1990, we have actively been working to increase educational accessibility and awareness of social issues. We have done this through developing a harassment policy on campus for graduate students including diversity training opportunities as well as non-discrimination and sexual harassment provisions. We have won healthcare coverage for same-sex domestic partners and increased available funding for child care and educational access for underrepresented groups .
